La Floresta, Barcelona Perennial, Wildflower Mediterranean Garden

Profect Brief: The garden theme and feel is an informal, natural, relaxing Mediterranean garden – drought tolerant, water-wise, lush, colourful, and rustic, the new plantings on the various terraces will blend seamlessly into the natural oak and pine woodlands of the countryside.

Our garden strategy is inspired by the principles of xeriscaping – a method that relies on the garden becoming self-sustaining through natural rainfall alone once established, thus drought tolerant. This eco-friendly approach of a water-wise garden is beautifully complimented by our choice of flowers and shrubs; almost every plant selected is either a native Mediterranean species, or a Mediterranean climate-type plant. These are inherently drought tolerant, thus perfectly suiting our low-water approach.

The Mediterranean perennial wildflower garden unfolds across five distinct, yet interconnected spaces, each with its own unique charm and character. Nestled on the northeast side of the property, the yurt area sprawls across roughly 200 square meters, from the road entrance all the way to the upper steps that lead to the property’s highest terrace.

Further south, adjoining the house’s road entrance, lies the lower terrace – with flowers and larger shrubs spanning roughly 90 square meters. Above it, the middle terrace reveals a generously-sized herb and vegetable garden, also covering around 90 square meters. This terrace is home to the yurt that sits majestically in its northeast corner.

The upper terrace, situated above the middle terrace, is the crowning glory of the property. Extending about 125 square meters, it unfurls just in front of the house, offering a stunning panorama of the surroundings. The three large retaining walls, which form integral parts of the terraces, are also treated as distinct spaces due to their size and prominence. These walls, while functional by design, are also a testament to the harmonious blend of man-made structures and natural beauty that characterises the garden.

Montmar, Castelldefels Hillside Garden

Project brief: Transform a tired hillside garden. The garden theme and feel is a private, serene, relaxing tropical garden – lush, green, and manicured, with a complimentary drought tolerant, water-wise cactus and succulent garden.

The meticulously crafted garden design unfurls a tapestry of six main spaces, each offering a unique ambience and experience. The garden’s narrative begins at the southeast patio area, which serves as the primary entrance. Here, one is greeted by the warm embrace of a paved patio and walkway, nestled at the base of the stairs and flanked on either side by lush garden beds, setting the stage for the beauty yet to be discovered. The narrative then weaves along the eastern walkway, a charming path that stretches from the southeast patio to the main deck. This picturesque route, punctuated by the rhythm of three flights of steps and a well-trodden walkway, is richly bordered by verdant garden beds, creating an inviting journey.

Upon reaching the main deck, one can find it seamlessly adjoined to the second paved patio – the deck entrance, which further leads to a flight of steps descending into the lower garden, elegantly bordered with a garden bed like a welcoming committee for nature lovers. Venturing westward from the deck, one can uncover the hidden gem of the lower terrace – the intriguing drought tolerant, water-wise cactus and succulent garden, accessible from both the deck and the western walkway via a flight of steps.

Finally, the western walkway unfurls as a scenic route characterized by a small terrace and an extended walkway. This path, with its series of steps and gravel pathway, bordered by garden beds on both sides, guides guests to the southwest staircase, marking the end of the garden voyage. This garden design essentially weaves a beautiful symphony between man-made structures and nature, offering an awe-inspiring, soothing sojourn for its visitors.

Sitges Town Tropical Garden

Project brief: Transform a U-shaped town garden with the theme and feel being a tropical Hawaiian 5 star resort on the Mediterranean – lush, green, colourful, symmetrical, manicured, impressive.

The outdoor space, brimming with serene beauty and tranquility, is thoughtfully divided into four distinct areas, each with its unique charm. Tucked away on the southeast end, you will find the decked lounge and sitting room, a space thoughtfully separated from the rest of the garden. It serves as a private sanctuary, where one can unwind in peace after a long day. Transitioning from this peaceful enclave, you are led onto a cozy, grassy area.

Encapsulating the area’s Mediterranean spirit, a mature lemon tree stands sentinel, its citrus scent permeating the air. This green haven is further enhanced by the stately planters and a captivating decking path that runs along the building wall, creating a harmonious blend of man-made and natural features. As we meander further, we reach the decked dining area. Nestled in the heart of the southern part of the garden, it provides the perfect setting for alfresco dining under the stars.

Following the gentle gradient of the sloping lawn, we arrive at our final destination — a secluded garden in the northwest area. Shielded from the bustle, it offers a private sanctuary amidst nature, completing the outdoor space’s harmonious symphony of tranquility and beauty.

Sant Pere de Ribes Townhouse Patio Garden

Project brief: Transform a townhouse patio into a appealing, intimate garden with ample room for dining and entertaining, planted with drought-tolerant, native Mediterranean plants and trees.

Envisioning a harmonious blend of aesthetics and function, our design shall meticulously divide the patio into two distinct, yet interconnected, spaces. The first one, closer to the house, will serve as a cozy seating and dining area, a space where one can recline and relish meals while soaking in the outdoor ambiance. The second one, an adjacent area, will unfold into a lush garden zone, offering a splendid visual spectacle and a soothing retreat.

The two zones will stand apart, yet together, through the creative implementation of a split-level patio. The pre-existing patio garden, with its two steps descending from the house to the patio, will undergo a transformative change. One step will be eliminated by elevating the first half of the patio up to the first step’s level, consequently introducing a step down towards the middle of the patio. This elevation will pave the way for the upper patio, which will house the seating and dining space, basking in the warmth of the house.

Meanwhile, the lower patio, now a step down, will metamorphose into the verdant garden zone. This space will feature two generously wide flower and plant beds, flanking the patio on both sides, providing an immersive garden experience and a feast for the eyes.

La Floresta, Barcelona Contemporary Garden

Project brief: A modern, contemporary garden theme using the elements of concrete, hardwood decking and paneling with gravel mulching and drought tolerant, water-wise planting of native Mediterranean plants and trees.

Our project endeavors to transform the outdoor space into a modern, contemporary garden, harmoniously blending the elemental robustness of concrete and the natural warmth of hardwood decking and paneling. This classic fusion not only creates an aesthetic balance but also amplifies the appeal of the garden, giving it an avant-garde yet serene feel. An intentional addition to the design is the use of gravel mulching. This choice is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also offers a practical advantage by reducing water evaporation and suppressing weed growth, thus contributing to the garden’s overall low maintenance, water-wise appeal.

Moreover, we infuse the garden with the vibrant charm of native Mediterranean plants and trees. These plant species are not only remarkable for their captivating beauty but also for their drought tolerance and water-wise nature, a crucial feature in our bid to embrace sustainable gardening practices. The inclusion of these plants will root the garden in the gentle serenity of a Mediterranean landscape, enhancing not only the visual appeal but also the environmental footprint of the home.

We believe that this blend of modern design elements and eco-friendly practices will create an outdoor space that is both beautiful and sustainable, a haven that that can be enjoyed while also contributing positively to the environment. This combination of aesthetic and ecological responsibility is at the core of our design philosophy. We envision the garden as a sanctuary that is as stunning as it is sustainable, a testament to the elegance of environmentally conscious design.
